Massive fire destroys storefront residence in western India, causing fatal injuries to family inside
In a tragic incident in western India’s Maharashtra, a massive fire broke out at a mixed-residential building, resulting in fatal injuries, including to children.
The incident took place in Siddharth Colony of Chembur area in Mumbai city on October 6.
Visuals showed thick black smoke billowing from the structure, with flames engulfing the building, sparking panic among nearby residents. The fire seemed severe enough to threaten lives as it spread rapidly across the building.
According to reports, the fire, which started in the early hours of Sunday, led to fatal injuries for seven individuals, including three children. The blaze began at 5:20 am, with the ground floor of the building operating as a shop and the upper floor serving as a residence. The fire, initially confined to electrical wiring and installations on the ground floor, quickly spread to the upper floor. It was classified as a ‘level-one’ fire by the fire department.

Five others sustained injuries and were immediately rushed to Rajawadi Hospital, where they were declared brought dead. The injured have been identified as Paris Gupta (7), Manju Prem Gupta (30), Anita Gupta (39), Prem Gupta (30), Narendra Gupta (10), and Vidhi Chediram Gupta (15). The exact cause of the fire remains unknown.
