Scuffle erupts between supporters of congress candidates during elections in northern India
by Aditi VermaA clash between the supporters of Congress candidate Mohammad Ilyas and independent candidate Raees Khan disrupted the voting process in Nuh, as Haryana voters headed to the polls for the 2024 Assembly Elections in northern India’s Haryana.
The incident took place at Nuh in the Punahana assembly constituency on October 5.
Visuals showed in an open ground area, a large group of people was seen arguing and clashing with each other, creating a chaotic and tense atmosphere. The crowd was scattered, with individuals shouting, pushing.
According to reports, a total of 1,031 candidates are vying for seats across all 90 assembly constituencies, with 20,632 polling booths established. According to the Chief Electoral Officer, Pankaj Agarwal, Haryana has 20,354,350 eligible voters, comprising 10,775,957 males, 9,577,926 females, and 467 voters from the third gender.
The JJP-ASP alliance is contesting all 90 seats, with the JJP fielding candidates in 70 and the ASP in 20. In the previous 2019 assembly elections, the BJP secured 40 seats and formed a coalition government with the JJP, which won 10 seats. The results of the 2024 Haryana Assembly elections will be announced on October 8, alongside those for Jammu and Kashmir.
