From grief to hope: Brain-dead patient’s heart along with kidney rushed for donation in southern India

In a significant incident in southern India’s Andhra Pradesh, the heart and kidney of a brain-dead patient were donated, marking a vital contribution to medical aid.

The incident took place in Kakinada district on September 23.

Visuals showed doctors, administration, and police personnel rushing through the hospital corridors carrying the organs in ice boxes to the ambulance. Police, alongside hospital staff, were seen monitoring the ambulance meant to transport the organs to another hospital. Two ambulances were observed leaving the hospital to ensure the safe transfer of the donated organs.

In another set of visuals, a doctor, along with members of his team, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the patient’s family for their noble act of organ donation. The deceased’s relatives also shared their emotional reflections on the decision.

According to reports, the brain-dead patient, Revanth, hailing from Thokalapudi village of West Godavari district, was critically injured in a road accident near Yerravaram on his way to take an exam in Vizag on September 21. After being declared brain-dead while undergoing treatment, his family consented to donate his organs. Revanth’s kidneys and liver were shifted from Kakinada Apollo Hospital to Vizag via a green channel.
