Prime minister Narendra Modi joyfully welcomes calf as his new pet
In a heartwarming event at the Prime Minister’s official residence in Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi joyfully welcomed a miniature cow as his new pet.
The incident took place at 7 Lok Kalyan Marg of New Delhi district on September 14.
Visuals showed the Prime Minister interacting affectionately with the calf, playfully caring for it, and even carrying it in his arms. Modi brought the calf into his pooja room, adorning it with a garland of roses and extending heartfelt prayers and affection. The touching video concludes with PM Modi strolling through his garden, holding the little calf and sharing a special moment with it.
According to reports, the new addition to the Prime Minister’s household is a healthy calf named ‘Deepjyoti,’ born to a cow already residing on the premises. The calf bears a unique mark on its forehead resembling a symbol of light. PM Modi expressed his joy on social media, quoting scriptures and sharing his gratitude for this delightful occasion.
Moreover, Prime Minister Modi’s new pet is also being seen as an effort to revive the traditional Indian practice of keeping cows as pets, contrasting with the more common practice of having dogs. The tradition of keeping calves and miniature cows, such as the Punganur cows from Andhra Pradesh, is gaining popularity. These compact, adaptable cows are ideal for urban flats and homes due to their minimal maintenance and hygienic qualities.

Prime Minister Modi’s step is expected to spread awareness about this alternative to traditional pets, highlighting the growing recognition of miniature cows as viable and culturally significant companions.
