Gold smuggling racket busted! Customs seize 24-carat rod and ring-shaped gold in southern India
In a major crackdown in southern India’s Tamil Nadu, customs officials seized rod and ring-shaped gold of 24-carat purity from passengers arriving on a flight.
The incident took place in Tiruchirappalli district on September 3.
Visuals showed officials breaking an iron rod-like structure with tools, revealing a ring-shaped gold structure concealed inside the rod. The gold was seized as part of an intelligence-led operation.
According to reports, officers from CIU & AIU Trichy (Prev.) intercepted three passengers who arrived on Air Asia flights AK 27 and AK 29 from Malaysia to Trichy. The officials seized the concealed gold, which was smuggled in a highly sophisticated manner.
Customs officers are now investigating the smuggling network and its links to international routes, focusing on the passengers involved.
