Chain snatching in northern India: woman robbed during morning walk, trader fired at while chasing robbers

A shocking incident of chain snatching occurred in northern India’s Uttarakhand when two miscreants on a bike robbed a woman during her morning walk. A courageous local trader tried to catch the thieves but was fired at by the fleeing robbers.

 

The incident took place between Avdhoot Mandal Ashram and Shankar Ashram in Haridwar district on September 3.

Visuals showed a woman who was robbed of her chain while she was on her morning walk between Avdhoot Mandal Ashram and Shankar Ashram. According to the information received, a man arrived on a Splendor bike without a number plate and snatched the chain from the woman. The woman raised an alarm, and a nearby trader named Mukesh Saini attempted to catch the robbers. In response, the chain snatchers fired a shot at Saini. Fortunately, he escaped unhurt. Despite this, Saini got up and made another attempt to catch them, but the culprits fled on their bikes, brandishing a firearm.

 

Mukesh Saini immediately informed the police, who rushed to the scene to investigate. The police are relying on CCTV footage from the surrounding area to identify and apprehend the chain snatchers. They have also set up roadblocks at several checkpoints in the vicinity to catch the culprits. Authorities are confident they will apprehend the criminals soon.

Additionally, another crime spree has unfolded in Haridwar, where thieves have targeted three temples in the Piran Kaliyar police station area. They broke into donation boxes, and the thefts were caught on CCTV cameras installed in the temples. Police have registered cases against unknown individuals based on the complaints received and are actively investigating these thefts. The Pirankaliyar Police Station in-charge, Dilbar Singh Negi, mentioned that they will solve these cases soon.
