Large crocodile causes panic in village in northern India, safely rescued by forest department
by Surya PrakashIn northern India’s Uttar Pradesh, a ten-foot-long crocodile was discovered near a residential colony, sparking fear and panic among the villagers.
The incident took place in Devrikath village, located in the Ghorawal Kotwali area of Sonbhadra district on August 23.
Visuals showed the long, broad, and dangerous-looking reptile slithering amidst the crops inside the farm field.
According to reports, the sudden appearance of the large reptile led to a massive gathering of people who anxiously watched the situation unfold.
Upon receiving the information, the forest department swiftly deployed a team to the site. Led by Forest Officer Surju Prasad, the team comprised wildlife guards Abhilash Kumar, Dashrath Pal, Omprakash Vishwakarma, and Omprakash Pal. The team worked diligently for over an hour to safely capture the crocodile.
Once captured, the crocodile, identified as a female, was carefully transported in a vehicle to the Ritthi Bandha reservoir, where it was released back into its natural habitat. The forest department confirmed that the crocodile had likely wandered into the village from a nearby canal, and it was now secure in the reservoir.
This incident highlights the increasing human-wildlife interactions in rural India, prompting authorities to reinforce safety measures and raise awareness among local communities.
