Historic achievement! India’s first reusable hybrid rocket launched successfully in southern India

In a groundbreaking achievement in southern India’s Tamil Nadu, the country successfully launched its first reusable hybrid rocket, RHUMI 1.

The incident took place in Thiruvidandhai village in Chennai city on August 24.

Visuals showed the rocket being launched into the sky successfully, with the administration closely monitoring the entire process.

According to reports, the RHUMI 1 rocket was launched through a mobile launcher from Thiruvidandhai, Chennai. The rocket, jointly built by Tamil Nadu-based startup Space Zone India and Martin Group, is designed to be reusable, eco-friendly, and cost-effective.

The hybrid rocket RHUMI 1, equipped with a generic fuel-based hybrid motor and an electrically triggered parachute system, will place 3 Cube satellites and 50 PICO satellites into a suborbital trajectory. These satellites will collect critical data for research related to global warming and climate change. The rocket, capable of safely landing in the sea, features a CO2-triggered parachute system, allowing for easy recovery and reuse of its components, significantly reducing space launch costs.

The airframe of RHUMI 1 is made of carbon fiber and glass fiber, ensuring durability and safety during its flight. The Cube satellites onboard will review atmospheric conditions, including cosmic radiation, UV radiation, and air quality. Anand Megalingam, CEO of Space Zone India, stated that this mission will provide valuable data on radiation levels, vibration, and temperature.
