Mysterious explosion in Pokhran firing range in northern India: bomb-like object falls from Indian Air Force jet, creating 8-foot crater
A loud explosion occurred near a village in northern India’s Rajasthan.
The incident took place in Rathoda in the Ramdevra area of Jaisalmer city on August 21.
Visuals showed the object that fell from the aircraft and the effect on the ground after the explosion.
According to reports, the incident took place when a bomb-like object fell from an Indian Air Force fighter aircraft, creating an 8-foot deep crater in the Pokhran Field Firing Range, a location known for military exercises.
The explosion happened around noon, about one kilometer away from the village population. Although the blast caused significant concern among locals, there were no reported injuries or property damage. Authorities, including police and military personnel, quickly arrived at the scene to investigate the incident. The Indian Air Force has since ordered an investigation, citing a technical fault that caused an “air store” to be inadvertently ejected from the aircraft.
This is not the first time an incident involving Indian Air Force equipment has occurred in the region. Just four months earlier, a reconnaissance aircraft crashed near Jaisalmer due to technical issues, though there were no casualties.
