Fake garlic scandal hits western India: shopkeepers selling cement imitation garlic

The incident took place in Akola district and the video went viral on August 18.
Visuals showed that the garlic imitations were crafted from cement and painted to resemble real garlic so convincingly that they appeared authentic at first glance.
Residents of Akola discovered that some shopkeepers have been selling garlic made from cement, masquerading as the real thing. The fake garlic, which appears authentic from the outside, is actually composed of cement mixed with garlic.
This revelation came to light when Subhash Patil from Akola reported that his wife bought garlic from a local vendor, only to find it impossible to peel or cut at home. Upon further inspection, they discovered that the so-called garlic was made of cement painted to look like real garlic. This incident highlights the increasing prices of garlic, which have driven some sellers to engage in fraudulent practices.
With garlic prices soaring, black marketers have seized the opportunity to exploit the situation. Videos of the fake garlic have gone viral, showing the stark contrast between real and counterfeit garlic.
