A man dressed in a shirt and pants, carrying a bag, was caught on video stealing shoes and sandals from outside a temple before quickly fleeing the scene in northern India’s Himachal Pradesh.

The incident took place at renowned Jakhu Temple in Shimla and the video went viral on August 18.

Visuals showed a man discreetly stealing shoes placed outside the temple and calmly placing the stolen footwear into his bag and walking away unnoticed.

Religious sites like the Jakhu Temple usually provide dedicated areas for visitors to leave their shoes, with the assumption that these belongings will be safe. However, this recent event has led to a growing fear among devotees about the security of their personal items. Visitors are now more cautious, with some even choosing to keep their shoes with them rather than risk leaving them outside.

The viral video has sparked discussions among the local community, with many calling for increased security measures around the temple premises. Some have suggested the installation of CCTV cameras to deter such thefts, while others are advocating for stricter supervision by temple authorities.

This incident is a reminder that even at places of worship, one must be vigilant about personal belongings. The authorities at Jakhu Temple are yet to respond to the situation, but the viral nature of the video has put the spotlight on the need for enhanced security at religious sites.
