Massive protests erupt in eastern India over horrendous sexual abuse of female doctor
by Aditi VermaIn a significant demonstration in eastern India’s West Bengal, men, women, political leaders, and celebrities took to the streets in a massive protest against the rape and murder of a woman doctor.
The incident took place at R G Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata city on August 13.
Visuals showed protesters conducting a march late in the day, raising slogans demanding justice for the victim while holding placards and showing solidarity with her cause.
According to reports, the latest protest follows a nationwide strike by doctors in response to the brutal rape and murder of the 31-year-old junior doctor, whose body was discovered in a seminar hall at R G Kar Hospital last Friday. The Kolkata police have since arrested a civic volunteer, Sanjay Roy, in connection with the case.
Meanwhile, a special team from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrived in Kolkata on Wednesday to take over the investigation into the R G Kar Hospital rape and murder.
