The scene was vibrant with doctors holding up a variety of posters and banners, displaying slogans demanding justice and accountability. The area was filled with a sense of urgency and solidarity as the doctors chanted and raised their voices, calling for reforms and stricter measures to ensure their safety. The atmosphere was charged with a mix of determination and frustration, reflecting their commitment to advocating for their rights and the protection of their profession.
In the wake of a rape and murder case involving a female resident doctor in Kolkata, doctors across the country, including those at AIIMS and Indira Gandhi Hospital, have gone on strike. They are demanding the implementation of a Central Protection Act for doctors and harsher penalties for perpetrators. As part of the protest, resident doctors are only providing emergency services, with OPD, OT, and ward services being affected. Meanwhile, the case has been handed over to the CBI. The CBI team has taken the accused to the Crime Branch office, where they will recreate the crime scene.
In Delhi’s Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, doctors have been staging a continuous protest for the past three days. Today, they continued their demonstration, holding posters and banners to demand justice. The doctors are calling for severe punishment for the accused and ensuring safety for doctors in their work environment. Dr. Shalini Thakur from RML Hospital stated, “Even today, doctors are not safe in the hospital. While the CBI investigation has been ordered, our demand is for the government to take concrete steps to ensure the safety of doctors. We will not end the strike until the victim receives justice and our demands are met.”
