In southern India’s Telangana, police have detained members of a notorious gang known for robbing passengers on long-distance buses.

The incident took place in Sangareddy district on August 5.

Visuals showed the huge amount of gold jewelry stolen by the robber sealed in packed seized by the police when they caught the gang.

According to reports, the group, dubbed the “Thar Gang,” was responsible for a heist involving 3 kg (approximately 6.6 pounds) of gold jewelry, stolen from an Orange Travels bus on July 25th. The robbery occurred at a popular roadside eatery called Chirag Palli Kohinoor Dhaba.

Following a complaint from one of the victims, local authorities launched an investigation. Police officers became suspicious when they encountered the gang attempting to flee in a Brezza car during a routine vehicle check at Burdhipad Chowrastha on National Highway 65. Although three of the gang members managed to escape, police successfully recovered the stolen jewelry, valued at around Rs 3 crore (approximately $400,000 USD).

The Thar Gang has a history of targeting buses traveling from Hyderabad to Mumbai, organizing well-planned thefts. District Superintendent of Police (SP) Rupesh provided details of the case during a press conference in Zaheerabad, revealing that the gang had also committed thefts in the suburbs of Hyderabad in the past.
