Officials rescue woman jumping from balcony in western India
In a recent incident in western India’s Gujarat, a remarkable rescue operation was undertaken by police and fire brigade officials, saving a young woman who was on the verge of jumping from a fourth-floor balcony.
The incident took place in Ganesh Flora’s apartment in the Vatva area in Ahmedabad city on July 23.
Visuals from the video showed the woman perched precariously on the balcony railing. A fireman, descending from above, swiftly intervened to pull her back to safety. Meanwhile, onlookers and emergency personnel positioned safety nets below to catch her if she fell.
According to reports, Ahmedabad Fire and Emergency Services received a call from the child’s parents in the afternoon requesting them to save their daughter who had locked herself in the room.
Another team was stationed on the fifth floor, directly above her bedroom.
“We positioned nets and mattresses on the ground, and another team was deployed on the fourth floor near her flat for rapid response,” Jadeja added.
The team on the fourth floor of the opposite block continuously talked to the woman, encouraging her to communicate with her friends and family to deter her from suicide.
“The team engaged her for half an hour. Meanwhile, team members from the fifth floor and the adjacent apartment climbed to her balcony from the outside and pulled her to safety,” Jadeja said.
Vatva police reported they are unaware of the exact factors contributing to the woman’s mental state.
