Rice-laden truck overturns in southern India, spilling 200 packets of rice; driver escapes unharmed

The incident took place on the Wadakkanchery-Kunnamkulam road in the Thrissur district on July 16.
Visuals showed late at night, a truck lay overturned on the road, its cargo of rice packets scattered across the pavement. Police and fire brigade teams were working together, picking up the fallen rice packets and moving them to the side. A crane was being used to lift the truck off the road. Meanwhile, the fire brigade was diligently cleaning the oil and diesel spilled from the truck with water to prevent other vehicles from slipping.
Nidheesh, Fire Station Officer informed News Lions that a major accident took place on the Wadakkanchery-Kunnamkulam road when a truck transporting rice for the Pavizham Rice Company overturned, blocking the road and causing a significant spill. The response and clean-up operations started from 11.50 pm and extended until 3:00 AM, lasting about 3.5 hours.
The truck, loaded with rice packets, toppled over, scattering 200 packets of rice across the road. Thankfully, the truck driver managed to escape the vehicle safely before the situation could escalate further.
Local authorities, including the fire brigade, police, and residents, worked together to manually remove the spilled rice packets from the road. In a coordinated effort, the rice packets were cleared, and the overturned truck was subsequently lifted off the road with the help of a crane.
One of the critical concerns during the operation was the spillage of oil and diesel from the overturned truck, which posed a risk of making the road slippery and hazardous for other vehicles. The fire brigade promptly addressed this by washing and cleaning the area to prevent any further accidents.
The incident caused a significant delay in traffic, but thanks to the swift actions of the fire brigade, police, and local community, the road was eventually cleared, ensuring safe passage for other vehicles.
The quick response and collaboration between the emergency services and the community were instrumental in managing the situation effectively, minimizing potential hazards, and restoring normalcy to the affected road segment.
