Couple jumps from bridge to avoid oncoming train in northern India
In a harrowing incident, a couple in northern India’s Rajasthan jumped from a railway bridge to avoid an oncoming meter gauge train.
The incident took place at Goram Ghat railway bridge on the borders of Rajsamand and Pali districts on July 13.
Visuals showed Rahul Mewada, 22, and his wife Jahnavi, 20, were taking selfies on the bridge when they noticed the fast-approaching train. Panicking, they jumped into a 90-foot-deep ditch below, the woman’s screams echoed in the air.
They were initially treated at Phulad Hospital, with Rahul later transferred to Jodhpur due to severe spinal injuries, while Jahnavi is recovering at Bangar Hospital in Pali with a fractured leg.
The incident was captured by Jahnavi’s sister and brother-in-law, who were also present. Ajmer Railway Division’s Senior Commercial Divisional Manager, Sunil Kumar Mahala, stated that walking on the bridge is prohibited, and the administration frequently issues warnings against such activities.
This tragic accident underscores the dangers of taking photographs in restricted and dangerous areas, highlighting the need for public awareness and adherence to safety regulations.
