Union Minister skydives to promote aero sports on World Skydiving Day in northern India
Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat marked World Skydiving Day by skydiving at India’s only civilian drop zone in northern India’s Haryana, emphasizing the potential of aero sports in boosting tourism.
The incident took place at a civilian drop zone at Narnaul Airstrip in Mohindergarh District on July 13.
Visuals showed Union Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, accompanied by a skydiving expert, prepared for their skydiving experience aboard a helicopter. With utmost safety measures in place, they descended from the aircraft into the open sky, exhilarated by the thrill of the moment. After a thrilling freefall, they skillfully deployed their parachutes, gently gliding down to the ground, landing safely and joyfully celebrating their successful skydiving adventure.
On World Skydiving Day, Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat underscored India’s commitment to developing skydiving as a key adventure tourism attraction. He inaugurated India’s first dedicated skydiving aircraft, VT-SBS, a Cessna-182P Skylane, aimed at enhancing India’s aviation and adventure sports landscape.
Speaking from Skyhigh, the premier skydiving facility near Delhi, Shekhawat highlighted the government’s focus on transforming Goa and Madhya Pradesh into prominent skydiving hubs. He noted that this initiative aims to provide Indians with local opportunities to experience skydiving, reducing the need to travel abroad for such adventures. Shekhawat also praised the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) for developing comprehensive regulations to ensure safety and growth in skydiving and other aerosports across India.
