Village council subjects young man to public humiliation and punishment in northern India

The incident took place at Kheda Aprola village in Amroha and the video went viral on July 11.
Visuals showed a young man, adorned with a garland of slippers and his face blackened, was paraded through the village. Trailing behind him were the other villagers, creating a scene of public humiliation. The somber procession moved slowly, capturing the gravity of the punishment and the collective gaze of the community.
According to reports a young man faced severe humiliation under a draconian order issued by the village council. The council, angered by the young man’s interactions with his girlfriend, blackened his face and adorned him with a garland of slippers. He was then paraded around the village in this humiliating state.
The incident has sparked outrage as the young man was also subjected to having half of his head shaved as part of the punishment. Despite the video of this incident going viral, the local police have not taken any action against the village council.
This shocking display of vigilante justice has raised serious questions about the influence and unchecked power of village councils in rural areas. The incident took place in Kheda Aprola village, under the jurisdiction of Naugawan police station in Amroha.
