Heavy rain brings city to standstill with severe waterlogging in northern India

A short but intense spell of heavy rain has severely disrupted life in northern India’s Haryana, causing widespread waterlogging across the city.

The incident took place in Gurugram and the video went viral on July 3.

Visuals showed the drainage covers getting opened and roads getting overflowed with water due to flooding in the area.

According to reports, the sudden downpour has exposed the city’s inadequate civic amenities, leaving residents and commuters struggling to navigate submerged streets and overflowing drains.

The heavy rain led to traffic jams, power outages, and disruptions in daily activities. Many areas were submerged under several feet of water, making it difficult for vehicles and pedestrians to move. Public transportation was also significantly affected, with delays and cancellations adding to the chaos.

Residents have expressed their frustration over the poor infrastructure and lack of preparedness by the civic authorities. The city’s drainage system, unable to handle the volume of rainwater, quickly became overwhelmed, resulting in flooded roads and residential areas.

Authorities are now working to clear the waterlogged areas and restore normalcy. However, the incident has sparked a renewed call for better urban planning and infrastructure improvements to prevent such occurrences in the future.
