Security personnel in  northern India’s Jammu and Kashmir successfully recovered and defused a rusted mortar shell after it was spotted by locals, prompting swift action from authorities.

 

The incident took place in Barodii village under the jurisdiction of Bari Brahmana area in Samba district on July 1.

Visuals showed in an open field surrounded by forest, a few men were waiting for something to happen. After a short while, a group of goats ran past, and seconds later, there was an explosion, filling the area with smoke and dust.

 

Locals in Badori village, under the jurisdiction of Bari Brahmana police station in Samba district, discovered the aged mortar shell early this morning and immediately informed the police. Responding swiftly to the alert, a bomb disposal squad was deployed to safely neutralize the potentially hazardous device. The team carefully secured and disposed of the mortar shell in a controlled detonation nearby. This incident underscores the ongoing vigilance and collaborative efforts of local communities and security forces in ensuring public safety amidst such discoveries.
