Continuous rainfall causes overflow at popular Bhushi dam in western India
A scenic hill station in western India’s Maharashtra, is experiencing significant disruptions as continuous rainfall has caused the Bhushi Dam to overflow.
The incident took place in Lonavala near Pune city on June 30.
Visuals showed dramatic scenes with torrents of water cascading down the dam and people taking baths and selfies with a sense of panic.
According to reports, the dam, a popular tourist destination known for its picturesque views and serene environment, has become a focal point of concern due to the persistent downpour.
The heavy rains have not only led to the overflow but also increased the water levels in the surrounding areas, creating hazardous conditions for visitors and residents alike. Authorities have urged tourists to avoid the area until the situation stabilises.
The overflowing dam has resulted in water spilling over its edges, flooding nearby pathways and attractions.
The Bhushi Dam, situated in the picturesque Western Ghats, is a favoured spot for tourists, especially during the monsoon season. However, the current overflow highlights the challenges posed by heavy rainfall in the region, emphasising the need for caution and preparedness.
