Women riders blaze trails in northeastern India: Trishakti corps motorcycle expedition celebrates empowerment

Visuals showed a group of determined and enthusiastic women riders, all dressed in their striking biker costumes, gathered at the starting point in Sukna. The air is filled with a sense of adventure and excitement as they mount their powerful motorcycles. The engines roar to life, marking the beginning of an extraordinary journey. Their route takes them through dense forests, steep inclines, and sharp bends, showcasing the natural beauty and diversity of the region.
The first significant milestone is reached at Kalimpong, where the team is officially flagged off. The ceremony is filled with energy and encouragement, as local supporters cheer them on, recognizing the significance of their journey.
Leaving Kalimpong behind, the riders continue their ascent into the majestic hills of Sikkim. The landscape becomes even more breathtaking, with towering peaks and deep valleys. The highlight of this leg is reaching Nathu La, a high-altitude mountain pass that presents both a challenge and a triumph for the team. At various points along their route, the riders participate in numerous events. They pay homage at war memorials, such as the Ganju Lama War Memorial, where they honor the bravery and sacrifice of Indian soldiers. They also interact with local communities, including NCC girl cadets, sharing stories and inspiring future generations.
The Trishakti Corps of the Indian Army, in collaboration with Iron Horses Academy, New Delhi, conducted a pioneering motorcycle expedition featuring women riders. The expedition aimed to highlight women empowerment, pay tribute to the Indian Army’s Bravehearts at various war memorials, and promote the tourism potential of North Bengal and Sikkim.
The journey began on June 18th, taking the riders through the majestic hills of Sikkim to the iconic Nathu La and New Baba Mandir. Along the route, the team paid homage at the Ganju Lama War Memorial, honoring the valor of Indian soldiers. The expedition concluded in Gangtok, where the participants shared tea and inspiring conversations with the Girls NCC cadets of the 3 NCC Battalion. This segment of the journey emphasized adventure, camaraderie, and the diverse beauty of East Sikkim.
The thrilling ride continued through the Door region of North Bengal, leading the team to the Indo-Bhutan border. Here, the riders interacted with local women and NCC girl cadets, fostering a spirit of community and empowerment. The team also paid tribute at the Damdim War Memorial and conducted a workshop on ‘Safe Riding of Two Wheelers,’ promoting safety and awareness.
The expedition culminated on June 24th in Sukna, where the riders were warmly received. Through this inspiring journey, the women riders of the Trishakti Corps have not only broken barriers but have also paved the way for a more inclusive future. The Indian Army’s Trishakti Corps, while vigilantly guarding the borders, continues to make significant contributions to nation-building by empowering women.
