Speeding car runs over family of three in northern India; sends victim flying in air
In a tragic incident in northern India’s Uttarakhand, a speeding car driven by an intoxicated Block Development Officer (BDO) claimed the lives of a woman and two young girls.
The incident took place in Tehri district on June 24.
Visuals showed the accident occurred when 36-year-old Rani Negi was out for a walk with her nieces, 10-year-old Agrima and 7-year-old Anvita, on Nagar Palika Karyalaya Road. The speeding car, driven by DP Chamoli, struck the trio, causing them to be thrown a considerable distance. The car also hit two other pedestrians, who sustained minor injuries.
According to reports, emergency responders and bystanders rushed the victims to the district hospital, where doctors pronounced Rani Negi and her nieces dead on arrival. The two other injured individuals received treatment for minor injuries.
The police have taken DP Chamoli into custody, confirming that he was heavily intoxicated while driving. The incident has sparked outrage in the local community, highlighting the dangers of drunk driving and raising concerns about road safety enforcement in the region.
