Loco pilots go extra mile to fix train on bridge in northern India
June 22, 2024
In a remarkable display of bravery and technical skill, two locomotive pilots in northern India’s Bihar, averted a potential disaster when their train stalled on a bridge due to an air pressure leak.
The incident took place between the Balmikinagar and Paniyava stations on the Samastipur railway section on June 21.
Visuals showed the loco pilot crawled under the bridge inside the train to fix the leakage in the engine. The train, number 05479, suddenly lost traction when a valve started leaking air, causing it to stop mid-bridge.
The quick-thinking loco pilots, showing exceptional courage, crawled under the train to identify and fix the leak. Despite the dangerous conditions, they managed to repair the engine and safely continue the journey with all passengers on board.
Their heroic actions have been widely praised, with Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Vinay Srivastava announcing a reward of ₹10,000 for their commendable efforts.
