Elephants halt traffic as tractor navigates through herd in eastern India

In a striking reminder of the coexistence between humans and wildlife, a herd of elephants brought traffic to a standstill as they crossed a road in eastern India’s Jharkhand.

The incident took place in Chakulia of Singhbhum district on June 13.

Visuals showed how the herd of elephants suddenly became chaotic because of the tractor that was coming their way while they were crossing the road. Fortunately neither of the two were injured, and the tractor passed through the herd safely.

According to reports, the incident occurred when a tractor driver encountered the massive animals during their routine passage through the area.

In India, where jungles and human settlements often overlap, animals, especially elephants, have the first right of way.

Such encounters are not uncommon in Jharkhand, a state known for its rich biodiversity and extensive forests.
