Dramatic monsoon scenes in western India: men struggle to retrieve bike from floodwaters
The monsoon season has brought heavy rains to western India’s Maharashtra, leading to dramatic and challenging scenes across the district.
The incident took place in Nashik district on June 11.
Visuals showed two men are seen wading through chest-deep water, struggling to retrieve a motorcycle submerged in the deluge.
According to reports, the intense rains, which have been pounding Nashik city and surrounding areas for the second consecutive day, have provided much-needed relief from drought conditions. However, the relentless downpours and strong winds have also caused significant disruptions and damage.
In regions such as Manmad, Chandwad, Yewla, and Nandgaon, the rain has been particularly severe. Several villages in Chandwad are experiencing severe flooding, with rivers and streams overflowing, and small dams breached. In a tragic incident in Khadgaon, Manmad, a farm laborer was struck and killed by lightning while working in the fields.
Despite the difficulties, the continuous rainfall has cleared the way for sowing, offering hope for future crops. However, the immediate focus remains on dealing with the damage and ensuring the safety of residents as the monsoon continues to impact the region.
Authorities are urging residents to stay cautious and avoid flood-prone areas, as more rain and potential flooding are expected in the coming days. The monsoon, while providing relief from drought, has also highlighted the vulnerability and resilience of the Nashik district.
