Woman flung by speeding car in western India, police release driver due to ‘absence of complaint’
In a disturbing incident a woman was struck by a speeding car on the highway in western India’s Maharashtra. Despite the severity of the accident, Police released the driver, citing the absence of a formal complaint.
The incident took place at Bhujbal Chowk in Wakad in the Hinjawadi area of Pune on May 23.
Visuals showed a speeding car hit a woman walking along the highway, flinging her several feet away before crashing into a nearby shop. The footage suggests the woman sustained serious injuries.
However, Hinjewadi Police stated that because neither the woman nor her relatives filed a complaint, they did not register a case. The official stance is that the woman’s injuries were not severe enough to warrant a complaint from her or her family.
This decision has sparked controversy, especially given the scrutiny faced by Pune Police after the Kalyani Nagar incident. Questions are being raised about why Pimpri Chinchwad Police did not take proactive measures to file a complaint themselves.
The incident highlights ongoing concerns about police response and accountability in handling traffic accidents, especially those involving serious injuries. Critics argue that the lack of action by the authorities undermines public trust and raises serious concerns about the enforcement of traffic laws and victim support.
