Heavy rain causes major traffic disruption in local area in western India
A torrential downpour led to significant flooding on the road in western India’s Maharashtra, resulting in the complete closure of the route to vehicular traffic.
The incident took place in between Kase Park and Maruti Rest House, Pune city on June 9.
Visuals showed the heavy rainfall created a large pool of standing water, trapping two travel buses and numerous smaller vehicles. With no alternative routes available, many citizens were forced to abandon their vehicles and wade through the water to reach their destinations.
The stranded vehicles caused further complications, creating a bottleneck that hampered efforts to clear the area. The incident, which began around 7 PM, caused severe inconvenience to local residents and travelers. By 4 AM, the area remained submerged, leaving the road impassable.
Emergency services were deployed to assist those affected, but the situation highlighted the urgent need for improved drainage and infrastructure in the region to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
Local authorities are advising residents to avoid the area until the water recedes and the road can be safely reopened. In the meantime, efforts are underway to provide relief and support to those impacted by the flooding.
