Unusual devotion: pet dog circles a sacred place on occasion of Shanti Jayanti in southern India

In a peculiar display of devotion that has left locals in awe, a pet dog in a village of southern India’s Telangana, performed an unexpected ritual during the celebration of Shani Jayanti.

The incident took place in Racharla Gollapally, situated in the Ellareddypet mandal of Rajanna Sirisilla district, on June 6.

Visuals showed how the dog, very religiously like a human, took eleven rounds of the Navagraha.

On the auspicious occasion of Shani Jayanti, typically observed with reverence by devotees circling around the Navagrahas in temples, the Geetha Mandir of Racharla Gollapally witnessed an extraordinary sight. Instead of humans, it was a canine companion who took centre stage, astonishing onlookers by completing 11 rounds around the sacred Navagrahas.

The incident, which occurred on Thursday, caught the attention of villagers and visitors alike, sparking curiosity and prompting discussions about the mystical bond between humans and animals. While devotees traditionally pay homage to the Navagrahas on Shani Jayanti, the sight of a dog participating in the ritual added an unexpected twist to the proceedings, captivating the imagination of all who witnessed it.

Local residents expressed their amazement at the dog’s unusual behaviour, with many interpreting it as a sign of divine intervention or spiritual significance. Some even speculated about the possibility of the dog being a vessel for celestial energies or harbouring a deep spiritual connection to the sacred site.
