Touching tribute! Football Legend Sunil Chhetri bids his last adieu to fans, teammates after his final game for India

by ShravyaBidding goodbye to one’s work and retiring is one of the most emotional moments of a person’s life and an example of that was seen when football legend Sunil Chhetri bid a memorable farewell to fans and teammates as he retired from the career in eastern India’s West Bengal.
This happened in salt lake stadium in Kolkata on June 6.
Visuals showed Chhetri received a heartfelt standing ovation from his loyal supporters as he made his way across the expansive stadium to express his gratitude. He burst into tears in the stadium as he took a lap of honour as the crowd cheered him on, and fans bid farewell to their idol. Indian fans were also seen chanting and cheer for their star player outside the stadium before the last game of Chhetri between India and Kuwait.
Unfazed by a passing thunderstorm, fans lined the streets leading to the stadium, their cheers and chants of “India, India” echoing through the air.
In the spectator stands, Chhetri’s parents watched their son’s 151st and final match of his illustrious career, moved to tears alongside his wife, Sonam Bhattacharya.
The 39-year-old maestro has not only rewritten records but also reshaped the narrative of football in the nation. Since his debut in 2005, Chhetri has been a beacon of inspiration, amassing a plethora of accolades and setting new standards for appearances and goals scored for the national team.
