A bustling metropolis city in the southern India’s Telangana, grappled with chaos and disruption as heavy rains lashed the city on Wednesday evening.

The incident took place in Hyderabad on June 5.

Visuals showed knee deep waters and the water level rising as high as the car’s windows.

The downpour, accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms, wreaked havoc across various parts of Hyderabad, triggering widespread waterlogging and disrupting commuter routines.

According to the Telangana State Development Planning Society, several areas in the city recorded substantial rainfall figures by 7 p.m., with Begum Bazaar, Chandrayangutta, and Malakpet among the worst affected. The sudden deluge caught many commuters off guard, leading to massive traffic jams and inconvenience during rush hour, particularly in prominent IT hubs like Madhapur and Hitech City.

In the midst of the chaos, Hyderabad Traffic Police issued alerts advising commuters to steer clear of congested areas near key junctions such as Traffic Control Room, Punjagutta, and Ranigunj. Cyberabad Police also urged residents to plan their travel routes meticulously via social media platforms like X.

The situation was compounded by incidents of fallen trees and electricity poles, further exacerbating the challenges faced by residents and authorities alike. The Disaster Response Force (DRF) teams of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) were deployed to mitigate water stagnation and clear obstructed pathways across the city.

As Hyderabad continues to grapple with the aftermath of the torrential downpour, residents and authorities remain vigilant, striving to mitigate the disruptions caused by nature’s fury and ensure the safety and well-being of all citizens.
