Relentless rainfall has inundated a major city in southern India’s Kerala, causing water pouring inside tech hub
The incident took place in Kakkanad, Kochi on May 22.
Visuals showed how the office’s ceiling was dripping and the floor was overflowing on the floor causing hindrance in work and daily activities. The office staff can be seen scrambling to get out. From the canteen to the gates and the entrance, hundreds of workers were stranded as water gushed in from all sides.
Streets across the city quickly filled with knee-deep water, disrupting daily life and causing widespread flooding. Kakkanad, a key area in Kochi known for its IT parks and industrial projects, has been particularly hard-hit.
Footages show water pouring through the ceiling of an office space in Infopark, leaving hundreds of workers stranded. Nearly submerged vehicles, highlighting the extent of the flooding.
The deluge affected several prominent locations in Kochi, including MG Road, Ernakulam Junction railway station, and the areas near JLN Stadium. Severe waterlogging led to significant traffic jams in Kalamassery, Vyttila, and other parts of the city, exacerbating the impact on daily activities. As the city grapples with the first heavy rains of the season, authorities are working to address the challenges posed by the unexpected flooding.
