Locals save seven-year-old boy from drowning in northern India
by ShravyaIn a heroic display of bravery, a man from northern India’s Jammu and Kashmir rescued a 7-year-old boy who slipped into the river.
The incident took place at Jhelum river in Safakadal area of Srinagar on May 26.
Visuals showed a man diving into the river and swimming towards the child, who was being carried away by the current. Once the rescuer reached the boy, he brought him back to the riverbank where others were waiting. As the child was brought ashore, the crowd can be heard urging for CPR to be administered. The video then showed the child being carried by locals, who questioned him about his condition and whereabouts. Thankfully, their timely intervention saved the child’s life.
This incident marks the third water-related accident in the region this month. Earlier, a 50-year-old man, Abdul Rahim Lone, drowned in the Jhelum River in the Gund Prang hamlet of Bandipora district on May 16. Locals reported that Lone slipped into the river while fetching drinking water.
These incidents highlight the persistent dangers posed by the region’s waterways and underscore the critical importance of community vigilance and readiness to act in emergencies.
