8 stranded on Island in central India rescued by SDERF team
In a tense overnight operation, eight people stranded on an island between the Sindh and Gunjari rivers in central India’s Madhya Pradesh were safely rescued by the State Disaster Emergency Response Force (SDERF).
The incident took place on an island formed between the Sindh and Gunjari rivers near the Bhadouta-Rannaud road, close to the Resham Mata Temple, in the Kolars police station area of Shivpuri district on August 15.
Visuals showed after heavy rainfall, the water flow in the river surged dramatically, stranding several people. As the river’s current became more intense, these individuals found themselves trapped on a small island. For several hours, they clung to the safety of the island, surrounded by the rushing waters, hoping for rescue. The island, just a small patch of land amidst the turbulent river, became their refuge. Eventually, a rescue team arrived, navigating the strong currents with determination. The team successfully reached the stranded people, carefully guiding them onto boats, and brought them safely back to shore. The scene was a mix of tension and relief, with the swollen river in the background and the rescuers working diligently to save lives.
Eight individuals were rescued from an island in the Sindh River near the Bhadouta-Rannaud road in Shivpuri district, Madhya Pradesh, after being stranded due to a sudden rise in water levels on Thursday evening. The incident occurred near the Resham Mata Temple, where the Sindh and Gunjari rivers converge, creating a dangerous situation as water levels surged.
The stranded individuals, including teenagers and young adults, were able to alert their families, who then informed the local authorities. The district collector was notified immediately, prompting the swift deployment of police, administrative personnel, and the SDERF team to the site.
Despite arriving at the scene on Thursday night, the SDERF team was unable to initiate the rescue operation due to the high water levels and the island’s elevation.
