70-year-old man arrested for molesting a 10-year-old Girl in northern India
A 70-year-old shopkeeper, Anwar Khan, has been arrested in northern India’s Uttar Pradesh, for allegedly molesting a 10-year-old girl in his shop.
The incident took place at Warish General Store in the Hargao area in Sitapur district on September 3.
Visuals showed an elderly man, appearing to be in his 70s, is seen offering a toffee to a 7-year-old girl and persistently urging her to come inside his shop. Suddenly, a boy of the same age appears, causing the old man to stop. Meanwhile, someone secretly records this entire scene.
According to the girl’s statement, Khan offered her a toffee and forcibly tried to drag her inside the shop. When the girl resisted, he pressured her several times to come inside. Despite her refusal, Khan forcefully pulled her in and started molesting her. The terrified girl screamed, attracting the attention of nearby people. Upon seeing a crowd gathering, Khan released the girl, and she ran back to her home.
The girl informed her family about the traumatic incident. Her uncle complained to the local police. Upon receiving the complaint, the police promptly registered a case and arrested the accused, Anwar Khan. The accused has been sent to jail.
The viral video of the incident on social media has caused widespread anger among the public. Sitapur’s Additional Superintendent of Police stated that Anwar Khan would be charged under Section 74 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), along with relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. The officer assured that efforts would be made to expedite the trial in a fast-track court to ensure a swift and just verdict. The police continue to investigate the case and carry out other necessary legal proceedings.
