Exclusive Story: 3-year-old gets finger stuck in cooking utensil, rescued

In an unusual incident, a 3-year-old girl got her index finger stuck in the hole of a steamed rice cake maker’s plate and was freed by the Fire and Rescue team.

The incident occurred in Venjaramoodu, a suburb of Thiruvananthapuram city in southern India’s Kerala, on January 30.

Visuals show the toddler sitting on her mother’s lap while her index finger remains stuck in the steel mold. A team of rescue officers, along with doctors, attempts to free her finger from the utensil. The child weeps in pain as an officer uses a tool for the rescue with the help of a flashlight, while others hold the plate in place. Her cries grow louder when the officers use a hydraulic cutter to cut the mold. Eventually, her finger is carefully removed from the center hole of the plate by pulling it out. The girl’s finger appears slightly swollen due to the pressure.

Speaking to Newslions, Vipin Babu, a Fire and Rescue officer from Venjaramoodu, stated that the child had stuck her finger in the steel mold while playing with it. A team of eight officers arrived at the medical college after receiving a call from the management for assistance. The finger was finally freed using a hydraulic cutter and shears after a three-hour struggle. The child sustained minor injuries.
